My mother says

  1. Nurture your relationships with your siblings, they will be there for you forever.
  2. Make friends that help you become a better person/Muslim. Friends should inspire you.
  3. If only you spent as much time on your deen as you spend on school work…
  4. Do the right thing always
  5. A woman’s beauty lies in a small waist - not in a specific weight
  6. Dress nicely even if your going to work in your garden or throwing out the garbage - you never know who is watching ;)
  7. Dress up & look nice for family, relatives, friends. Never get so familiar that you don’t take care of your appearance in front of them - their opinions of you matter more than strangers
  8. Give at least an hour of your time to Allah every day
  9. God made man and women different - don’t try to emulate the opposite sex
  10. Women: curves, yes. Muscles, no!!
  11. Always have your kitchen, living room and bathroom clean & presentable. You can lock the bedroom but the rest is all accessible to anyone who drops in without notice
  12. Talk quietly (hard for majority of Somalis) & walk gracefully as a lady
  13. Treat others as you would want to be treated
  14. Don’t try to wear makeup regularly until your in your 30s. Your natural beauty is enough during your youth
  15. It’s okay to be single, it’s not okay to be stupid and rush into marriage for the sake of marriage
  16. and the most important one which she shows rather than says is: I love you.
