Favourite childhood books
I was such an avid reader when I was younger. I remember reading 700 page books in two days regularly. I used to sometimes even skip doing my homework so I could find out what happened in whatever spellbinding book I was immersed in. I often stayed up late at night squinting under the soft light of the moon shining in through my bedroom window while everyone else was asleep. The library was my second home and favourite hangout spot (I know, I am so not cool). I just had to enter through the double doors and I felt like the world outside with all it’s problems and responsibilities melted away. I would grasp 10+ books at a time and sit at my favourite corner and just read, read, read. So many books I’ve finished in the library that I didn’t need to borrow them after all. I’m almost convinced that I’ve generously contributed to the salary of all the library employees with my astronomical late and lost library book fees. So here is the list that I quickly remember, in no particular order, for nostalgia’s sake and a suggestion to those who have young siblings, cousins, nieces or nephews who love books. The books I’ve read over and over again:
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- Island of the blue dolphins
- The Hatchet
- Jane Eyre
- Little Women
- The Catcher in the Rye
- Charlotte’s Web
- Shabanu and Haveli
- Batsheva
- Hank the Cowdog
- Anne of Green Gables
- Harry Potter
- Little House
- Babysitter’s Club
- Sweet Valley High
- Encyclopedia Brown
- Junie B. Jones
- Amelia Bedelia
- Grimm Fairy Tales
- The Magic School Bus
- Frog and Toad
